Les Ensectes 🐜
My Mugler muse for Halloween
Thierry Mugler’s ‘ant women’ were part of his Spring/Summer 1997 Haute Couture collection ‘ Les Ensectes’ The theatrical collection transformed models into powerful insect-like creatures, blurring the lines between nature, fantasy and the female form.
I thrifted my version, including my IRO Paris heels and I made my antennae from cable ties added to an old fascinator.
LES ENSECTES 🐜 was inspired in part by the early 1900’s novel The Metamorphasis by Franz Kafka, Thierry turned his models into a progression of hard shelled, armored and winged insects.
I didn’t realise how on point this choice was for me until diving deeper into the major themes of not only Mugler’s show
but the novel too - alienation, identity, the human condition and transformation to name but a few.
Thrift art definitely imitating life for me and a beautiful confirmation to keep moving towards my own metamorphosis with a new armour intact
I love how fashion can give us the power to morph into new forms.
